Background

What do all parents want? Better prospects, more opportunities, a higher standard of living for their child, because nothing makes them happier than seeing their childre grow, get smart, become happy and successful. To be able to achieve that they have to start off with a strong foundation of knowledge that will help them along the way, and Rocket Learning helps them exactly with that.

What could be a deeply, culturally rooted symbol that encompasses all this?

The motherly care that is required to join the program, the strong intellectual foundation that Rocket Learning provides, and the education as the the main field of the organization.

The answer: the banyan. India’s national tree that grows thousands of roots, most of it above the ground, a symbol of knowledge, growth and protection widely known in even the most rural areas of the country.

Describe the creative idea

Rocketing roots: an overarching visual identity fusing the banyan tree with the other two most important elements of the organization: the rocket present in the name, symbolizing rapid growth and the pencil as the identifier of education, the latter also apparent in the previous logo, an important element to maintain brand continuity of Rocket Learning. All contributing to a relevant, positive, easy to understand and inclusive visual identity.

It’s important to add that the banyan tree is not only a significant element in the logo, but also the conceptual basis of the mascots, as this gigantic plant gives place to several well-known species of animals known throughout the country, such as the Indian Ringneck Parakeet, the Langur monkey, the flying fox and the bengal tiger, all easily recognizable and likable for every target group.

Describe the execution

The new identity brings together all the previously mentioned elements in a coherent way, allowing scalability, consistency and may easily be adapted not only on a national, but also on a global scale. While both the logo and the mascots contain cultural specific elements such as the banyan tree and the Langur monkey, they are well-recognizable in any country, regardless of age, gender and socio-economic status, giving it the potential to be more than just and identifier of Rocket Learning, and become the global symbol of early childhood learning and education. Its core element, the banyan tree is more than just a visual element, it also carries the message of sustainability. So it can be the center of fundraising and community building campaigns, such as planting trees for every child in the program to ensure their futures on our planet or the location of annual meetups, etc.
