Describe the creative idea
The study of tree rings is a well-known, natural, and beautiful way of measuring the growth of a tree and the passage of time.
We use this as a form of data visualisation, showing that as your tree grows, so does your profit. The result is a simple and intriguing representation of EcoTree’s unique business model.
Strategy and Insight
Our climate-conscious target audience is no stranger to the environmental benefits of forestry and tree planting. If we were to draw them to EcoTree, as opposed to any other sustainable organisation, we would need to highlight an additional, unique benefit.
Our strategy, therefore, was to put EcoTree’s revolutionary model—of financially rewarding tree ownership—front and centre of our print ad.
The next challenge was to explain this unique model “in one simple, impactful key visual”. We decided to use creative data visualisation as a method to both intrigue and inform our audience.
We found that the beautiful, tactile imagery of tree rings served as the perfect ‘hook’ to engage viewers and pique their curiosity. By layering in simple messaging, we manage to clearly explain how EcoTree’s investment model works: as your tree and timber grows over time, so does its value and your profit.
We believe that by demonstrating exactly how planting a tree can lead to profits, audiences will find EcoTree’s proposition believable and investable.
