Write a short summary of what happens in the film

In our film, we tell you the story of Asha, an uneducated young mother, through a video portrait and typical Warli-inspired illustrations. Despite her limited academical skills, she is the best teacher that her child could have.

Background

Rocket Learning is a platform in India that helps parents participate in the early education of their child at home. Parents join a WhatsApp group in which they receive learning activities and exercises every day. By teaching them the basics of math and language, they set a foundation for the rest of their lives.

The problem? Many parents in India are not educated themselves. This gives them a lack of confidence in their capacity to educate their child. Therefore, they don’t engage or answer to the services of Rocket Learning, missing out on the education their child could get. How do we convince these parents to spend 30 minutes a day with their child to focus on their education? They can easily do it without needing special skills thanks to the WhatsApp groups Rocket Learning is offering.

Strategy and Insight

One of the main reasons parents are not involved in their child’s early learning process is insecurity. Not being educated can make them feel powerless. But we think it is the total opposite. We turn their lack of education into a superpower. Because it’s their struggles of not having an education that gives them the determination to make their children do better. They will do whatever it takes to give them a life filled with opportunities. We invented the ‘No degree degree’. A degree not based on the skills you learned at school, but on the lessons you have learned in life, by not having a degree. We want to give parents the courage they need to take part in the educational journey of their young child, with the help of Rocket Learning.

We chose to show Asha in the film because in most rural households in India, the dad goes to work and the mother takes care of the household and the children.

We made illustrations inspired by Warli paintings, a traditional art form in rural India. These paintings are made with rice-paint on the typical ochre walls of the rural houses, representing day to day tasks or special events of life.

Becoming the perfect teacher for your child is a pretty special moment.

We think that this idea could live in other channels as well. What if we actually give 'no degree degrees' to the parents? This video could be the beginning of a bigger story.
