Description
It's Chinese New Year (CNY), and mom is making a feast to bring the family together. But in the living room, the family members are busy doing their own things, even when mom calls them to the dinner table. That's when the Coke Clay Dolls leap from the Coke label and into the scene! These magical CNY icons (who try to remain out of sight) have a plan to spark connection. The Clay Dolls hide the Coke bottle, leading to an unbeknownst game of hide and seek for the whole family. The Clay Dolls manage to sneak the Coke bottle into position for a daring catapult launch back to the dinner table, where the family finally finds the Coke, and something they had not even realized was missing - the warmth, laughter and feeling of togetherness without which Chinese New Year is meaningless.
Execution
Our challenge was integrating CG characters with live action footage in a way that felt tangible and authentic. The characters needed to feel believable, as if they could exist in the real world. Animation and live action production teams from different countries worked together to plan and prepare shots that would work well with the character animation. This involved 3D printing of the Clay Dolls for live action production to accurately visualize character movement and unify the vision of the entire film crew. Camera and lighting data also had to be collected in order to seamlessly blend the animated characters with real footage.
