Safety Bike Radio is a mobile-synchronized radio activation on which cyclists use a DIY portable radio transmitter to communicate car drivers about their presence, avoiding traffic accidents.

Because car drivers cannot always see the cyclists (due to the blind spot, distractions or even poor illumination), the device overlaps the radio frequency on a 30 meters range, making sure drivers will hear and pay attention to the cyclists on their surroundings.

Connected to an App, the device allows users to choose between preset messages or record their own messages, and even transmit live to alert specific drivers on their proximities.

And the best of all: anyone can create their own Safety Bike Radio, using our common creative instructions and something every cyclist already have: the water bottle.

Safety Bike Radio is the cyclists’ voice in traffic.

First of all, we needed to build a portable radio transmitter to interfere in the radio frequency, and guarantee it wouldn't be active outside the 30 meters range.

The second step was to design the App and work on its features, synchronizing it with the device and allowing people to personalize their own communication.

After that, we produced 50 prototypes and distributed them to different people between our target audience.

Then we released the creative commons instructions for people to create their own Safety Bike Radios.

In less than 3 months, everything was ready and we launched the idea.

The Safety Bike Radio creative commons instructions have already been downloaded more than 5.000 times.

It had such a nice response that people from all over the country are getting in touch, downloading the instructions and sending us compliments along with pictures of their own portable radios.

The traffic gained more security and 98 FM more listeners.
