Background
For drivers looking to earn extra cash during busy nights, if a passenger pukes in their car, that's game over for the rest of the day. That’s why we redesigned the Barf Bag and began distributing over 30,000 free units for drivers across our biggest markets, just before New Year’s Eve.
Idea
Lyft cares about its drivers and passengers. These playful bags were added for the comfort of drivers and passengers.
Execution
Since 1949, barf bags have always looked the same - a plain white travel accessory people typically try to avoid. To encourage drivers to add barf bags to their cars, and get passengers to actually use it, we introduced a new, whimsical design.
The new barf bags are designed to emulate social filters on Instagram and Snapchat, where users can add stickers and animations to their faces.
Outcome
Lyft is always looking for ways to improve their relationship with their drivers, and help them earn more. By handing out free barf bags before New Years Eve, we helped drivers keep their cars clean. After successfully distributing over 30,000 barf bags across 15 states, we sent out a survey to drivers asking if they found this accessory helpful. The responses were 100% positive.
