Description

The film begins with parents preparing their newborn child to meet grandma for the first time. It is a time of joy and expectation. As they travel closer to their destination, the threat looms larger and large. We see grandma preparing for this first meeting with anticipation, busily getting ready to meet her grandchild. But just as in the fairy tale, this loving, caring grandma has been taken over by a hungry wolf. Her cough reveals that far from being innocent, Grandma is really a wolf in sheep’s clothing, endangering that which she cherishes most, without even being aware that she is poses a threat to the infant. Had she been vaccinated against whooping cough, the story reveals, the wolf would never have been able to hide in the guise of grandma.

Execution

The drive to Grandma’s house was shot from a drone. The shots inside the care required that the Director of Photography ride in open hatchback, dangling out to shoot.

Since all computer graphics were developed after shooting, the position of things like Grandma’s nose and ears had to be considered when she was holding the baby in each scene. Grandma wore V-neck tops to allow for fur to cascade when she became the wolf. Her glasses were simple because they had to be recreated on the wolf, and the wolf’s ears are much higher and the nose longer so the glasses pitch further down. This was important because of the toggle from human to wolf and back again.

Also, the house was located in a Los Angeles neighborhood, but had to be shot in such a way as to appear “in the woods,” where Grandma lived.
