In "Break the Ice", Coors Light has enlisted a uniquely qualified team of Coors Light Explorers to harvest the coldest and freshest Coors Light in the world directly from the Rocky Mountains, Coors Light's birthplace. These rugged Explorers go to extreme lengths to bring Coors Light to consumers, including traversing a gauntlet of icebergs with only crampons and a pickaxe. The heart-thumping action and breathtaking mountainscapes elevate these never-before-seen stunts from a 30-second commercial to an epic, cinematic drama with an amusing twist at the end.

The "Break the Ice" production process was an achievement for the following reasons:

1. We were incredibly efficient.

We filmed on location in Alaska during the month of January when there was only 6 hours of daylight.

2. We were authentic.

We used the most authentic talent possible. We hired professional rescue and extreme condition survival guides, not actors.

We shot in the most authentic way possible. During the filming, our talent was actually berg hopping through the waters of Columbia Bay, and falling into the freezing cold water. No stunt doubles or special effects.

3. We built the set and filmed in extreme conditions.

We filmed in two locations for this spot: Columbia Bay and a remote National Park. There were active glaciers in Columbia Bay that were calving throughout filming. At one point, a boat had to rescue two talent because an iceberg the size of a city clock rolled right where we were filming. The location at the remote National Park required snowmobile transportation to get us there due to the terrain as well as the need to preserve the land.

The Art department needed to carve into an ice wall to install a "portal" door for one scene.

For the berg jumping scene, we used specialized ice boats that are designed to push huge blocks of ice out of the way to help make the bergs at the appropriate distance. These boats also served as the base for production and film crew.
