Background
The D&AD Annual is a showcase of the year’s best creativity from around the globe. The 2018 president wanted to focus on future talent – to giving a bit back to the people starting out in the industry.
This year, for the first time ever, readers received two publications – one to showcase, and one to teach, nurture and inspire. The new, companion piece, ‘the D&AD Manual’, is a creative handbook containing industry insights as well as a series of creative ‘brain training’ exercises. Its purpose is to inspire the next generation of creatives, who eventually may feature in the Annual.
In order to give the Manual true equal prominence to the Annual, half of the Annual’s cover has been removed. The design styling through the two pieces was simple and bold. The famous D&AD yellow being implemented with a utilitarian palette of black, white and grey.
