Description

Every family has a special recipe; meals that have long been in the family that our grandparents cooked for our parents, and in turn, our parents cooked for us. These recipes are important because they're behind so many wonderful dinnertime memories but with over 250 elderly Australians developing Alzheimer's every day, these special recipes are slowly being forgotten.To preserve them before they're lost to time, Uncle Ben's, champions of family dinner, created an unforgettable cookbook; Eternal Recipes, a specially made cookbook written by Alzheimer's sufferers, and made to last forever. Filled with the memories, stories and special family recipes of thirty Alzheimer's patients, the book ensured their words remained long after their illness made them fade away. Made from ultra-durable materials and special enhancements like UV ink, we passed the book onto their family members to ensure these special recipes would be around for this generation and the next.

Execution

Over the month of April, we interviewed dozens of Alzheimer's patients. We sat with them and gathered their stories, memories and dinnertime recipes. We picked thirty people and in the patient's own words, placed their tales into our Eternal Recipes Cookbook. With limited filming we tried to capture their stories in natural settings which required patience due to the sensitive nature of the illness they were dealing with and a desire to respect the privacy of their families. The book itself was created in conjunction with a printing studio. We wanted the book to stand the test of time so special methods were used in production including using a UV ink to prevent fading and a Buckram cover for extra durability. We printed a limited run and gave enough to each participating family to ensure that every generation onwards would have access to their family's special recipes.

Outcome

For thirty families, we created something that will hopefully stay with them and have meaning far beyond a traditional advert. For Uncle Ben's, it was the first step into something new and exciting. This isn't a traditional sales result, but these results are important all the same.
