Description
We created a film that brings the safety instructions across in over 1000 hand-painted Delft Blue tiles. An ode to KLM’s Dutch and blue heritage and a perfect way to show the amount of detail KLM puts in an important subject such as flight safety. First the entire mandatory script was translated into a series of detailed, hand-drawn, Delft Blue illustrations. These illustrations were sent to a digital animator, who turned them into one big fluent animation. Then every single frame of this animation was sent to artisans who actually hand-painted the frames on Delft Blue tiles, resulting in over one thousand authentic Delft Blue tiles. By photographing every tile and using the stop-motion technique, a unique flight safety film was born.
Execution

Outcome
Next to the millions of passengers who view the film on board every year, the safety-film already collected a total of 9.340.999 online views in the first two weeks after the launch. The exhibition of the tiles at the Dutch Design Week was visited by over 200.000 visitors.
