Background

Open casket funeral services are common practice in the United States, where family and friends gather to pay their respects to the dead.

Execution

A man walks into the viewing room at a funeral home looking slightly uncomfortable as he approaches family members sitting near the casket. He wants to pay his respects to the grieving widower, so he looks at the woman in the open casket (not shown) and approaches a younger man who he assumes to be her husband. The young man quickly clarifies that the woman is not his wife, so the embarrassed guest apologizes and moves on to offer his condolences to the middle-aged man sitting nearby. When he once again learns that he’s approached the wrong man, he looks at the elderly gentleman who he now knows is the husband. Feeling mortified, he painfully fumbles through one last gesture of respect before awkwardly making his exit. The film signs off with “Never Look Your Age” and a coffin-like closure of the Olay Regenerist jar.
