Description

In 2007 the foundation supported three highly endangered species: the German sparrow, the red deer and the hare. To do this, they quickly needed an increased budget for each of these animals, one that could only be generated by an increase in donations. However, most people in Germany know nothing about their own indigenous wildlife and the situation it faces.

Execution

Our unique promotional campaign simply allowed the animals to voice their complaints themselves, giving them the chance to speak about their own situations. In official application letters accompanied by photographs, they applied to the Minister Presidents of the German Federal States for a new habit - because in their own home regions, no-one cared about their situation. We then left there opened letters in every location where members of the public - likely to make donations - congregate: the foyers of opera houses, theatres or art galleries. At the same time, the well-know recipients stimulated interest to read the letters.

Outcome

Unwilling to lose their indigenous animals to other countries, the readers of these letters provided donations. These personalised "letters of emigration" allowed each animal to earn its own budget, and not long after the promotion the German Wildlife Foundation received twice as many donations. These donations could then immediately be put to use in the regions for the special species-related projects.
