Description

“The Piccards” is based on the true story of father-son explorers Auguste and Jacques Piccard. In surreal fashion, the film reimagines the individual achievements of both men as one continuous upward journey—an odyssey across time and space—to the stratosphere and the deepest point of the ocean.

Outcome

The ambition of this film was to tell an incredible story and involve the best possible creative partners and methodologies to achieve that. From a story standpoint, we engaged with our director eight months before the eventual launch of our film. We worked closely to ensure that every piece of information the audience would ultimately experience was meticulously considered. Visually, to create a benchmark experience, we began in-camera and built historically accurate scale miniatures and scale interiors, shot hundreds of elements and partnered with a renowned fluid macro artist. We then completed the visual effects and finishing in a 2.5K space, created a 4K digital master and printed back to film negative prior to the final color grade. Original music and sound design also had the duty of supporting not only an incredibly historical story, but one that took conceptual liberties in how it was told.
