Description

AFS is a non-profit organization that offers exchange programs and operates in more than 50 countries, providing inter cultural learning experiences for students from all around the world.

In Argentina, 250 students travel per year to other cultures. That´s a great thing for them, but sooner tan later, 12 months abroad is time more than enough to suffer of what is known as Home sickness.

Whenever this happens, Millennial make use of basic technology to overcome it. But there are things even the most powerful connection won´t do. You can´t smell an Asado on Skype . This makes many prospects lose their interest in AFS programs, so instead of hiding the symptom we decided to find a solution to it, so more and more students would feel encouraged to travel abroad.

This led us to the development alongside a very well known Argentinian molecular cuisine chef of the HOME SICK PILLS, pills with the true argentine flavors so that each student could feel close to their home, being anywhere in the world.

We also wanted to include a Skype code in each pack, so when we called the MSN people to purchase their service they were so impressed with the idea that they donated the codes to us.

Execution

The development of the pills took months of hard work. We hired an Argentinian molecular cuisine chef and decided the flavors. Molds were specially made for the pills to have their particular shape and be edible. We started making samples, looking for the adequate packaging and labels design.

We got in touch with MSN offices. The idea impressed them so much that they decided to give us free Skype credit in the form of codes that we printed in each label.

Once the product was finished, we handed out the pills to the students only a few hours before they got into their planes. Just a few days after, we started seeing the results: they shared their experiences with the HOMESICK PILLS on the most popular social networks.

Outcome

Soon after taking off the first students started sharing their experience with the HOME SICK PILLS through social networks. They uploaded photos, comments and even videos! This allowed more students to get to know AFS and get interested in intercultural exchange programs.

In fact, when other AFS branches heard about the activation they asked us for the recipe to develop their own unique flavors: USA is about to develop Smoked Turkey, France decided on Crème Brûlée and Jiaozi in China.
