Background

This project was produced for domestic and global audiences, with a universal intention. It was released with 57 different language subtitles, and 11 different language voice overs. Because of this, we do not feel there are any cultural terms or references that would not be understood by an international jury.

Idea

IMAX “Infinite Worlds” was created to be IMAX’s most cinematic promo ever. This project's objective was to create a trailer that showed the IMAX difference in a new and intriguing way. It needed to be shown globally in every IMAX theater, standing alongside major feature films. The Director came up with a vision of multiple "worlds", scenes that have a unique tonality and sense of genre, yet still feel coherent. This trailer needed to highlight IMAX experience, showing how IMAX does films to the fullest with endless options of stories.

Execution

IMAX's "Infinite Worlds" trailer is all about the blockbuster cinematic experience. Expertly crafted visual effects are essential to this experience; audience expectations require nothing less. Needing to stand alongside films shown in IMAX theaters, we were engaged in the project from the creative conception stages, working closely with the Director and production team. After determining which sets would be feasible to shoot, the sequences deemed impossible or impractical to build were entrusted to us to create via CG. We helped bring these worlds to life with a team of matte painters, animators, CG artists, and compositors working across the full spectrum of the visual effects craft. Artists took roughly 6 weeks to complete this project, and used multiple programs such as Houdini, Flame, Nuke, and Maya. This project was mastered to IMAX's state of the art specifications, which requires a robust VFX infrastructure to finish at this quality level.
