Description

Discover Movies, one of the oldest video libraries in Nairobi was going out of business. Why, because people were using the free Internet in their offices to download movies and TV series. We found a solution to both these problems in InstaVideo service, a promotional activity that delivered HD quality content to corporate offices at a marginal cost. To promote the service, we dressed our delivery boys as movie & TV series characters and sent them to interrupt live downloads in offices. Not only were the employees surprised to see their favourite characters getting them a better quality viewing experience, they were more than happy to sign up for the service.

Execution

In January 2015, Discover Movies signed up Weetabix EA and APA Insurance for InstaVideo service. To popularise the service, we created drama in offices by sending our delivery boys dressed as movie and TV stars resulting in immediate sign-ups for the service. Along with the employees spreading the news of the unique Video-on-demand service in their office, we also shot a video of our office activations and shared it online. The video became an instant hit. Many CEOs and office heads endorsed the idea getting InstaVideo many more clients leading to expansion of business to three more cities in Kenya. Today, after almost four months of its launch, 48 corporate offices are using the InstaVideo service across Kenya.

Outcome

The idea of getting office sponsored HD quality movies and TV series was an instant hit with an average of 68% of the employees signing up for the service. The video of our office drama spread across social media platforms garnering more than 1.2 Million media impressions. CEOs and heads of many offices were key endorsers of the idea. With an operational cost of USD84 on costumes of the characters, the campaign generated PR worth USD 0.66 Million. The ever-increasing demand for InstaVideo service has forced Discover Movies to start operations in three more cities in Kenya. As of today, 48 corporate offices have signed up for a long-term partnership with Discover Movies InstaVideo service giving the video library access to over 75,000 customers from across Kenya.
