Description

This is Nathan. He is 12 years old. He's from London, Ohio. Greatness is not beyond his reach, nor is it for any of us.

Execution

Lance Acord’s Nike “Jogger” spot was created as part of the “Greatness Anywhere” campaign.

The “Greatness Anywhere” campaign travelled around to world to different towns and cities named London (as it aired during the Summer Olympics in London), shooting various people finding their greatness. In total, there were 10 shoot days, and the budget was around $2.8 million. The “Jogger” spot was shot on the second shoot day in London, Ohio.

While the campaign’s anthem spot relies on quick cuts between 16mm and 35mm footage of different cities and different sports around the world, the “Jogger” spot is one, long quiet shot of an overweight young man running towards the camera. The strong, clean, simple visuals – shot on Super 35mm – combined with the striking voiceover, asking us to reach down and find the greatness within ourselves, enhances the power of the spot.

In keeping with the London theme, the young man in the commercial was cast locally in the London, Ohio area, adding another layer of authenticity to the spot and the overall campaign.
