Background

There are about 1.4 million visually impaired kids in the world. As even bumper cars in amusement parks are a big challenge for them, driving in real life is a dream out of their reach. Our purpose was to provide them a driving pleasure. As driving will not be possible otherwise, we intended for the kids to experience a driving pleasure by a newly developed car just for them.

Description

Over 3 thousands kids had experienced the Mini SONATA, several major news media reported the Mini SONATA Playground as ‘a place gives driving pleasure for everyone’, ‘the innovation of barrier-free’, and ‘a car aiming to dream of kids’ and it made an echo.

Execution

For a year and 5 months, Hyundai Motor Company researchers developed the Mini SONATA, actively reflecting opinions from teachers and students of school for the blinds as much as possible. Not only did we develop Mini SONATA, at an one of Koreas largest amusement park, Seoul Grand Park, we built an 2025m² playground to allow as many kids to experience this newly developed vehicle.

Mini SONATA Playground has been test opened last October, and finally opened to the public this year, March 19th.
