Execution
A mobile phone turns into a typewriter: We made use of the mobile mailing function. We asked writers to write novels though mobile phones with a minimum of 500 letters per entry. With the mobile's mailing function, up to 12,000 letters can be sent at one time. This was a good size for beginner level writers. Applicants were able to join the contest, anywhere, anytime, as long as they had their mobile.Establish prizes and evaluation: By adapting peer-review systems, so that each person could vote only once for each novel entry, it enhanced the quality of user assessment. Past mobile literature contests provided by others did not carry this function. Therefore some of the novels were highly evaluated by receiving multiple votes. We were the first company to address this issue.
Outcome
There have been 7.5 million accesses, 560 writers, and 1,313 novel entries!
This campaign successfully reached its targets. And the contest became one of the hot topics in Japan, it was featured by NHK, Nikkei newspaper and was used as a case study at Harvard Business School MBA’s.
