Description
Well known cartoon villain, Skeletor, wakes up with an unusual spring in his step. To his cats surprise, he’s in a good mood because he’s saved money through MoneySuperMarket. He struts straight out of the 1980’s and down the high street grinding his hips to Irene Cara’s Fame. The Masters of the Universe baddie inspires a number of admirers along the way, including up a school boy side kick who accidentally lets off a lazer beam from the disco demigod’s staff. At the end of the ad, Skeletor bumps into his nemesis He-Man, who declares “Skeletor, you’re so MoneySuperMarket”
Execution
For Epic Skeletor we wanted to pay homage to the cartoon we all know and love, but do it in a modern way, so the VFX in the final film could stand alongside a Marvel feature. To do it, we brought in the VFX artist’s behind Harry Potter and Thor.
The VFX played a big role in many aspects of the production, particularly when it came to making sure the suits the look real and also recreating He-Man’s iconic ‘By the Power of Grayskull’ lightening and bringing Skeletor’s Havoc Staff to life.
It was important to make He-Man and Skeletor’s suits look as real as possible, so we went to Legacy, the Hollywood masterminds behind the costumes in X-Men and Terminator. As amazing as the suits are, there was a large amount of additional SFX work to smooth them out and ensure they looked like real skin and bone.
