Description

Airing on Australia Day, this commercial was written to capture the hearts — and wallets — of Australian punters. We’re commonly referred to as ‘The Lucky Country’ so there was an opportunity to urge Aussies to have a bet on this day. The ad forms a faux Australia Day Address from the Queen: ‘Lucky Country’. Local humour is used. ‘Dean Lukin’ = a once good-looking, now portly Olympian. ‘Phar Lap’ = our greatest racehorse. ‘Emu-fighting’ – NOT a real sport. ‘Aussie Rules’ = football. ‘Warney’ = best cricketer. ‘Boony, Thorpy, Cathy, K-Perk, Lay Lay’– silly nicknames of Aussie sporting legends. ‘Fosters’ = beer.
