Execution

People of Antwerp, let’s write a beautiful urban love poem for our old docks, about the connection of our city with the water. Let’s do this all together. And then, let’s paint the poem on the 3.2 kilometre wall that divides the city from the old docks.Via an online movie on the campaign website and through social media, Antwerp’s official ‘city poet’ Peter Holvoet-Hanssen asked the people to write a line about their feelings and relations with the docks. Each contribution became part of a very long urban poem. No paid media were used.

Outcome

The 3.2 km wall itself became (and today still is) an important medium (and attraction!) for every citizen and tourist in Antwerp. 508 people took the actual effort of writing a personal poem.

Visitors on the online platform (www.kaaiengedicht.be) spent over 2 minutes on average reading the poetry of their fellow citizens or submitting their own poem.

A lot of people wanted to read it and while doing so, rediscovered the beauty of the old docks. The poem was even published in a book. Written by the people of Antwerp.
