Background

The all-new AirPods Pros have some of the best Active Noise Cancellation technology of any headphone on the market. First, however, consumers needed to be aware of how powerful the technology was compared to the previous generation.

The brief we set ourselves was simple: Create an awe-inducing, vibrant visual that brings the AirPods listening experience to life. A blend of sci-fi and surrealism, similar to a Douglas Adam’s story, viewers watch as the everyday noise drifts away into the void. Each floating element becomes its own tiny planet, hovering above our heroine, who is in a peaceful noise canceling bubble. The core is to take a simple concept - navigating a busy city street which is suddenly transformed into a peaceful walk through the silencing powers of AirPods Pro - and explore it in a variety of wildly imaginative ways.

Execution

What is it like to be in a sensory bubble that moves every noise distraction high and far away? The cinematographer’s quest with “Quiet the Noise” was to visualise with humour and poetry what noise cancellation feels like. This meant creating two worlds - one with noise cancellation and one without - capturing the sonic offenders floating above the city streets and returning to earth with a bounce.

Preserving the realism of each element was key to the story, from traffic jams to construction sites, from marching bands to barking dogs. Sound was shot on plates, the moments blue screened in a studio then digitally inserted into the big city location shots on a crowded six-way intersection. This kept the naturalistic texture intact during the digital enhancement process.

Meant to feel like a normal day, with every visual emphasizing the feeling of being in a bubble of calmness.
