In 2015, Vodafone launched ONE in Spain, a bundle offer that combined fiber and 4G, the ultrafast and most powerful Internet connection in Spain. To prove the power of ONE´s high speed connection we had an idea:
Since 1969, only 12 men have reached the Moon. What if now, thanks to ONE, we can all do it? Our site lets everyone see the Moon live, and up-close, as only astronauts have. From any device, wherever they are.
Execution
To see the Moon in real-time, 24/7 and in HD, we hooked up ONE Optical Fiber with 4 telescopes at the best international space observatories worldwide.
Users could control the telescope and aim it at the lunar location they wanted to explore. They could also leave their footprint on that point and upload the shot instantly to Twitter and Facebook.
The UI and design challenge was to to guide the user through an emotional and incredible digital experience, exploring the Moon. The interaction design, usability and graphics are all at the service of this inmersive user experience. This was a very complex journey in terms of technology (24/7 live streaming of a Solar System satellite), but we made it accessible, easy and appealing to everyone. People could follow the journey and control an astronomic telescope without being experts and without noticing the technology behind.
We proved the power of the product and made technology more human.
