Description

To stand out from a crowded field of VR demos at CES 2016, we created a thrill ride — a 28-seat 4-D VR experience that had convention-goers willing to wait in line for up to an hour. Riders wore Samsung Gear VR headsets and sat in 4-D simulation chairs that whisked them away on a wooden rollercoaster. The synced group experience was on display right in the center of the convention hall, and the cheers and screams of the “riders” drew over 3,000 people to the experience over the course of four days.

Execution

Over five weeks, the exhibit was fabricated, the operational plans developed and software finalized to create the full immersive VR experience. The studio location was visible immediately as attendees entered the Las Vegas Convention Center. You could not have attended CES without seeing (and hearing) our 28-seat VR experience.

Outcome

Samsung's VR experience at CES 2016 was by far its most successful offering in terms of visitor experience, reaction and media buzz. The space was more than consistently packed throughout the four days of the show. Samsung's Gear VR 4-D experience gave over 3,000 people an unexpectedly immersive thrill ride. The Samsung Gear VR Experience at CES garnered a total of 2,952 social posts over four days, which had the potential reach of over 177 million. 88% of the posts were uploaded to Twitter, and 11% to Instagram.
