OVERVIEW

Execution

The idea was to use the sea as a medium and let her do all the talking. Typography was explored in a way that went beyond the realms of conventional media. The Marina Beach in Chennai, India was our destination of choice. Large alphabets created from biodegradable materials like wood, khadi and paper pulp were dropped into the sea which was eventually washed up on the shores. These alphabets consisted words, which made us better understand what the sea truly had to say.

Outcome

The spectacle was witnessed by over 1200 curious spectators from every walk of life, scrambling to foretell what the sea would say. The excitement on the beach was matched only by that online. 128 blogs, 458 tweets and 632 hits on YouTube within a fortnight was unprecedented. And it didn't stop there. Exhibitions showcasing the project were opened in 12 venues in the city. 'Clean Marina Drive' - a cause to rid the Marina Beach of waste was mobilised. Every action a testimony that the sea had finally got its rightful voice.
