Description

Like most on-road vehicle launches, Slingshot invited the world get off their couches and experience the product. Unlike most launches, there was no product in-retail to experience.

The solution: Create the Slingshot 360 App to promote the experience of Slingshot—via an augmented-reality 360-degree 3D walk-around of the Slingshot vehicle, exclusive pictures and videos of the vehicle in action, plus rider reactions and testimonials—directly in the hands of consumers.

The app maintained buzz and created demand between Slingshot’s launch date and actual in-retail date. Most important, it activated consumers to seek out the real Slingshot vehicle experience once it hit retail (dealerships).

Outcome

Starting on launch day, with only the Slingshot 360 App to offer as a test-drive, Slingshot orders came rolling in.

Within six months of its launch in July 2014, the Slingshot 360 App—which was available exclusively to those who visited Polaris dealerships—was downloaded onto over 8,000 mobile devices.

The sales force (dealers) praise the app because it has allowed them to engage with consumers, create demand, and drive sales for Slingshot despite the scarcity of vehicles in retail.

Downloaders have also praised the interactive app, giving it 4 out of 5 star reviews on both iOS App and Google Play stores.
