Background

This campaign is running for three months across Europe and six months across the USA and Canada. The number of airings and placements is an estimation based on this information and the YouTube views at the date of submission.

Execution

Mentos is a brand built on fresh connections. They’re famous for their candy, but not their gum. Our challenge in 2019 was to get people not only talking to each other but also talking about Mentos gum? We did this through becoming the champions of Small Talk, getting people to understand that the simplest most mundane talk could be the most important.

We created a campaign focussed on all those awkward, relatable moments where we could all do with a little burst of confidence in the form of a minty piece of gum. Because in a world of big purposeful chatter, we’ve forgotten that even a dumb conversation is better than no conversation. In this film we see a young guy meeting his girlfriend's dad for the first time and desperately struggling for something to say before a piece of Mentos Pure Fresh Gum helps break the tension.
