Background

A sports car taking on one of the toughest rallies in the world? Unthinkable. That was, until Porsche came along in 1984 and sent the Porsche 953, a modified 911 to the Paris-Dakar Rally-and won. Now, Porsche released a strictly limited edition of the current 911 that paid homage to this legendary vehicle. Our job, was to connect past to future and infuse the new 911 Dakar with the sporting legacy of its predecessor. Just like the vehicle itself, the film was to be a real "brand shaper" - in other words, something that helps define the brand in the long term.

Execution

The audio is a mix of the legendary 80s new wave song "I ran" by "A Flock of Seagulls", amplified with specifically created SFX sound elements that maximize the feeling of a powerful dynamic drive through the desert. The song is dubbed out as if it were playing in the cars, or on the radio of the mechanics watching the race on TV - as if it were being atmospherically disturbed by the sandstorm. Together with the driving noises of the two sports cars, this results in a soundscape that also audibly evokes a rally and 80s feeling in equal measure.
