Description

This trailer represents the universe of “The Crew” a MMO and open world video game. This new concept is developed by Ivory Tower for Ubisoft for the next-generation consoles and was released for E3 2013.

Willing to make The Crew stand out from other trailers of this type the directors developed the idea of this new concept which consists of juxtaposing the two worlds highly valued by car lovers: aesthetically pleasing advertisements and action scenes. The distinctive features of the game such as the novelty of the multiplayer aspect, the feeling of freedom in an open world and the progressive arrival of other players in the action were highlighted through the link between the aesthetic constructions and mind-blowing racing scenes. The musical aspect also played a strong part for this trailer and we worked hand-in-hand with a composer who remixed the music so that it reinforces the images.

Execution

The main difficulty was to deal with massive scenes with many cars in them passing through lots of environments at different times of the day.

Each car had over a million polygons and each scenes contained dozens of cars so we had to develop a few tools and used proxies to deal with all this.

3dsMax for modeling and animation, Photoshop and Mudbox was used for textures, V-Ray for rendering, After Effects for compositing, Photoshop for Matte Painting.

To make this trailer we worked for a month on the pre-production, 4 months for the production and 25 people took part of this project.
