Background

The Warcast was launched in cooperation with Spotify on The International Day of Piece. We chose the medium of a podcast since it’s a very intimate way to reach people and really make them listen. Combined with the technique of binaural audio (3d-audio), which is more relevant than ever due to the fact that everyone listening with headphones, we were able to take people on a journey in which they not only hear the story, but really feel it. By partnering up with Spotify and Damien Rice the unheard story of Jasmine managed to reach more than a million people in the Netherlands. The unheard story of Jasmine is just one of many unheard stories, so the plan is to produce more in the future.

Execution

More children than ever are a victim of war. They all carry their own story with them. Stories that too often stay unheard. War child asked us to find a way to get people to listen to one of these unheard stories again. So that these children become more than just another anonymous statistic. The result was the Warcast. A 3d-audio journey in which you experience the true story of Jasmine, an 8 year old girl who had to flee the war in Syria. Seeing that it is a very delicate story to reenact, we did everything to create a sound-experience that was as authentic as possible. All the people you hear in the podcast are Syrian refugees themselves. All the sounds you hear (except for the bombs) are recorded live in 3d on several outdoor-locations. And the 3d-music is recorded exclusively by artist renowned Damien Rice.
