Description

We set out to find a meaningful and fun way to facilitate people to celebrate moving to their new home. When people move they want to notify their friends and family. The typically Dutch way of doing so is by sending a postcard. This can be quite a hassle and who actually still knowns the postal addresses of everyone? And just sending a text is a bit plain.

That's why we created the Verhuisappje (We're Moving WhatsApp). A moving announcement designed for WhatsApp. Via this service people were enabled to notify their friends and family of this new step in their life in an easy, hassle-free way.

Execution

Via a simple online, mobile tool you fill in your old and your new address. Images from the Google's Streetview API are stitched together to generate a custom vertical Streetview timelapse video of the route from your old house to your new house and a personal message can be added. And all of this optimised for the platform used most to keep friends and family posted: WhatsApp. By doing so Verhuisappje creates both great value for the customer as well as for ABN AMRO. We created an additional moment for ABN AMRO to be relevant and top of mind for new homeowners. From briefing to launch it took 2 months to develop Verhuisappje.

Outcome

No less than 78.9% of the people opened the email notifying them about Verhuisappje (benchmark open rate is 55%). More than 70% of the people who read the email used Verhuisappje (We're Moving WhatsApp). The tool is rated with a sentiment score of 8.2 NPS, which is far above benchmark.

Using WhatsApp as a platform helped amplify reach as people shared the video in their WhatsApp-groups, having the service become an ad on itself. Best of all, instead of just being a bank that supplies the money, we found a simple way to improve the customer experience for over 26,000 mortgage clients a year.
