Description

The world’s first VR mobile live broadcast of a baseball game began. KT Wiz from KT, South Korea’s biggest telecoms carrier, is a new baseball team in their second season this year. They were in last place in the previous season. By taking advantage of giga network systems and high technology, KT launched a brand-new service, targeting new fans.

Execution

When fans who booked smart tickets arrived at the home stadium, KT sent a welcome message and discount information straight to their smart phones. They didn’t need to get their tickets issued. Just their smart tickets were enough for them to be admitted right away. When they entered, they found around 1,000 cardboard viewers in the grandstand. Using these viewers, the fans excitedly installed KT’s VR app. When they put their smart phone into the viewer, fans were able to enjoy first VR mobile broadcast of a baseball game in real time.

A total of 15 VR cameras were set up in the stadium. KT created a VR video by combining the images that were filmed by those cameras in real time and sent the video to the fans via its app.
