The film plays out a love story. An Italian tram driver falls in love with the Evoque before the two are sadly parted at the end of the commercial. We see the tram driver following the Evoque through the city, stopping and starting through traffic – much to the consternation of his passengers in the tram.

The success of the Evoque TVC commercial ‘Tram’ depends wholeheartedly on the casting of the Italian tram driver who is the hero of the piece. As the commercial reaches its end a whole range of emotions are brought to life in a matter of seconds, from hope to longing to ultimately disappointment. And although the performance is comic it is never slapstick. You sympathise with our hero and his plight, rather than laughing at what is undoubtedly a larger than life character.

[Name deleted], a Director who has made his name capturing beautifully observed human emotions, took great care in casting Nicola Nocella in the role of the Tram Driver. Nicola is well known in Italy as both a television comedian and a stage actor. The subtly of his performance makes the commercial and stamps the campaign with the intelligent wit that all Land Rover commercials are rightly famous for.
