Description

Whether you’re a fan at home or a professional stepping onto the pitch, we all have rituals we feel give us that extra bit of luck.

The film opens on a father at home twinkling his fingers at the screen before cutting to his sons doing the same. “The pre-match ritual,” a voice announces off screen, “we all do it. Those little superstitions with which we reach out to tip the balance of fate.”

One by one, the film cycles through fans touching flags, laying out jerseys, kissing rings – or each other – all trying to conjure Lady Luck however possible.

Finally, the film resolves on Eric Cantona, Britain's favourite Frenchman, seated at a Parisian café. He’s the one who has been reciting this tribute to these special idiosyncrasies we all believe in. “We bring the luck”, he reaffirms, as a splodge of seagull poo drops onto his shoulder.
