Description

Through actual past and present journalistic scenes, the film shows atrocities and crimes committed by armies and civilians in the name of war and conflict throughout the world.

Execution

One of the biggest challenges of the project was dealing with the quality of the material with which we worked. Since most of the footage used in the film was either old or captured non-professionally (and many times, both), many of the scenes had very low image quality, limiting the ability to track characters properly and even recognise the animation patterns we had to duplicate in the 3D heads. Many of the shots had to be tracked by hand, almost frame by frame by the animators, in order to have the heads replaced accordingly.

Another complex part was that, even though we had developed high quality 3D ""demon heads"", we had to integrate them into blurry and noisy images, forcing us to use many forms of image degradation to match the original source and compose the 3D with the footage.

We've used Zbrush to model the heads, 3DMAX to animate and render them, and Autodesk's Flame to compose the shots.
