Why is this work relevant for Entertainment?

We build the story by using social media memes with purpose of building up humor in order to capture immediate interest. Therefore, this online movie sticks with the core concept of bold, spicy, and unexpected taste. Finally, it is positively ripple effect causing a viral phenomenon in the international scale.

Background

The green pea snack brand BunBun is launching a new paprika flavour with zesty, intense spices unlike any other available brands. But how can we overturn the existing perception of paprika as a bland and basic taste and create a different attitude towards the paprika flavour?

Describe the strategy & insight

Thai consumers have long been familiar with paprika since the market is awash with paprika-flavoured snack brands. But these paprika snacks have the same plain and bland taste, and so Thai consumers have normalized the paprika flavour and perceived it as a standard taste without any appealing personality.

Describe the creative idea

BunBun Paprika launches an online commercial called 'BOLLYWOOD BADASS' a tasty, spicy Bollywood-inspired movie aimed at redefining paprika as an exciting, vibrant taste in the style of spicy Indian recipes.

we reference a talk-of-the-town news report on fancy electricity poles; we use iconic images from the Dragon Ball comic books; we cast the lead actor who resembles a well-known pubic figure; and we design an exaggerated, over-the-top action style in the same fashion as Bollywood films.

Describe the craft & execution

We build the story by using social media memes to build up humor to capture immediate interest. For instance, we reference a talk-of-the-town news report on fancy electricity poles; we use iconic images from the Dragon Ball comic books; we cast the lead actor who resembles a well-known pubic figure; and we design an exaggerated, over-the-top action style in the same fashion as Bollywood films. All of this is to create an online movie with a bold, spicy and unexpected taste that can also become a viral phenomenon in the international scale.

Describe the results

The result is likewise sensational, Social media respond with excitement, resulting in huge organic engagement. Popular social media platforms, such as 9GAG, share the movie, while REDDIT shares it and engages over 1,000 comments. Global social media users are impressed with the movie’s bright, bold and humorous style and translate the subtitles into many different languages. There is even a lively discussion about the superhuman movement of Bollywood Badass and how he defies the law of physics. Most importantly, the sales of Bun Bun Paprika have shot up. The product has become a bestseller with consumers snapping it up and emptying the shelves of many stores around Thailand.

Is there any cultural context that would help the jury understand how this work was perceived by people in the country where it ran?

Practically every brand has its own Paprika flavour, In Thai everyone knows Paprika for its mild taste and Paprika itself was a flavour in almost every well known brand.

However, it is still distinctive among the crowd.

With the tang of high intense Paprika, it differentiates BunBun Paprika from the competitors. Therefore, the Bold flavor of BunBun Paprika is used to match with the cultural insight of Thais.

Thai people strongly believe that Indian people are specialized with spices especially in “Bold Paprika.”

Now, we introduced “BunBun Paprika”, an Indian spice in a bolder and tastier way with the purpose of reaching customers to feel and “taste like the boss”.

Success has knocked our door due to the fact that customers now understand how tang of BunBun Paprika. They can not find this tang flavor but only tasteless
