The design of Jio is rooted deeply in India. In Hindi the name Jio stands for “To Live".

The Jio Dot reflects the earth, the sun and the bindi, which is one of India’s most recognized symbols. The identity celebrates the vibrancy of India, the diversity and the happiness, which is part of the Indian culture.

Fundamentally new and game-changing is an algorithm that makes Jio a truly personalized brand, owned by the people. This begins in the identity where everybody can create their own Jio (Life) by using one of India’s most used colors. The algorithm then picks four colors the way they are combined in India and creates with this a personalized brand identity.

Execution

More than 1,000,000 creative developments in less than a year.

Following the biggest co-creation in the world with all employees across the country, India was invited with a nationwide 360° approach from TV, Print, Social and shops to create Jio and make it better and better.

It was executed on various touchpoints and integrated in all products and businesses from pricing strategy, business models, communication, Wi-Fi, banking, money, TV, music, cloud services, newspaper and all other products.

Outcome

7 new customers per second.

Within 6 months of business, Jio became the largest data traffic network in the world, moving India from ranking #150 in basic broadband data penetration to worldwide #1.

Customer base growth rate is massive:

16,000,000 customers in 1 month (world record)

50,000,000 customers in 83 days (world record)

100,000,000 customers in 170 days (world record)

All products /apps topped the appstore download charts.

Jio was the #1 social media trend.

Jio is THE symbol for change and for a digital India.
