Overview

Background:

With Legacy of Tomorrow visitors step into a luxurious world of fashion in virtual space. The cross-platform multiplayer experience, created in the Unreal game engine, is showcasing 16 unique fashion pieces from iconic fashion brands. With high-resolution pixel streaming, the experience is independent of high hardware requirements, ensuring seamless gameplay on any mobile or desktop browser. The fantastic landscape resembles a vast canyon of white stone, providing the perfect backdrop for the extravagant fabrics. User can engage with other players in real-time and explore the interactive environment with a personalized avatar. This virtual event is the ultimate fashion experience, featuring top-notch graphics and sound, stunning virtual models, and dynamic animations. Attendees will feel like they’re sitting front row at a physical fashion show, with the added bonus of interacting with the environment and other players.

Describe the creative idea.

The idea is to take the otherwise very exclusive runway show to a new and exciting level in a fascinating world to raise the extraordinary level of fashion experience. The virtual space allows limitless scope for creativity, expressiveness and storytelling around the presentation of designer fashion. Over and beyond the experience is theoretically unlimited in terms of time and capacity.

Technically, the high demands on the visual quality were solved by the pixel streaming methodology. This allows a high-resolution real-time experience and an enormous level of detail of the fabrics based on the establish internet connection. The oversized scaling of the virtual models creates a exceptional spatial experience and gives designers the chance to create hyper-complex fashion pieces and historic ones to present garments in digital form. In addition, various interaction mechanisms promote a communal experience.

Describe the execution

The experience was built in a couple of months and launched for Metaverse Fashion Week near the end of March. It was created in Unreal 5 and built on our Soil metaverse platform.

One of the big challenges was to get the designs into the environment and for the cloth to move as realistically as possible, while maintaining a strong visual appearance. We created a set of guidelines for the designers to submit their digital clothing. Once this pipeline was established it made it much smoother to import the designs.

We worked with a variety of fashion designers (from Web3 leaders The Fabricant to altr - who specialise in digitising historical garments).

The experience was delivered via pixel streaming technology - making it accessible on any smartphone, tablet or computer. All users needed was an internet connection.

We wanted to give guests a reason to spend time in the experience - and not leave feeling bored:

Created a show with a defined start, middle and end (the ending was a light show)

Gave guests the ability to explore the terrain (and search for Easter Eggs)

Gave guests the ability to interact and express themselves (dancing, fireworks)

Created a show which looked better - in terms of clothing and environment - than any publicly available virtual fashion show had before

Built in a Focus Mode and narration to explore the garments in more detail

Created scarcity, demand and appointment viewing by limiting show times

The show was supposed to run in limited slots over two days (users could book in advance although we also had on-demand servers for those who wanted to enter without booking) but in the end we ran it for several days more due to its popularity (5000 people entered in the first 16 hours it was open).
