BriefExplanation

“Push” is a powerful portrayal of three women’s journey to motherhood from around the world.

A western woman navigates the realities of unplanned pregnancy in a complex and often intimidating healthcare system. A woman is Sub-Saharan Africa prepares for her first child with her husband. An Indian mother in her mid-thirties balances caring for her two children as she readies herself for a third child.

We catch glimpses of their journeys — their triumphs and struggles, insecurities and hopes. Ultimately creating a poetic ode to the love, strength and sacrifice every mother has built into their soul.

In short, slice of life moments we peek into the elation, the love, the anticipation as well as the worries, the anxiety, and the fear of becoming a mother. We see how becoming a mother simultaneously breathtakingly beautiful and wholly terrifying.

Solution

The approach for the direction of PUSH was to design a conceptual framework that would unify all three stories, to orchestrate a variety of relevant circumstances and then utilize documentary cinema verite technique in order to allow moments to unfold over long takes. From the vast amount of material, just fleeting moments were selected, giving the piece its lush ephemeral quality and cohesive sense of realism.
