Ai Bi Ying (Welcome Each Other With Love) is Airbnb’s new Chinese brand name- a name inspired by the brand and China’s 5,000 year history. This launch film features 3 young artists interpreting each character as a work of art. In the film, we see how each artist - A typographer, an installation artist, and a fashion designer, expresses their interpretation of the meaning of “welcome each other with love.” From the last snowflakes of winter in China’s northeast, to the neon lights of Shanghai’s expressways, to the countless times of day that the individual Chinese characters “Ai,” “bi,” & “ying,” are seen throughout China — we see, hear, and experience a montage of visual inspiration intermixed with brief glimpses into the making of the artist’s final products.

The characters of the Chinese “Ai Bi Ying” translates into three distinctly separate ideas in English: “love," “welcome, and "each other." Although these 3 word-characters are common in the Chinese language, they are never grouped together in the order that they are for the Chinese brand name of Airbnb, “Aibiying.” In the film, each of these Chinese word-characters is first shown separately in everyday ordinary places where they could potentially be found throughout China — “love” on a necklace, “welcome” on a neon sign in a restaurant, and “each other” within the quote of an arm tattoo. In addition to the word association revelations, the Chinese art of Feng Shui, the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) is incorporated throughout the visual inspiration. We reveal the art pieces to show the interpretation of “Ai,” “Bi,” and “Ying” together — “Welcome each other with love.”
