Description
We wanted to tell the story of the Contour bottle, starting with its predecessor and prototype. The idea was represent how the final design literally embodies the past. So we created a nested bottle set, packaged in a way the pays tribute to Coca-Cola’s packaging heritage.
Execution
We collaborated with glassmakers, welders, carpenters, lathe workers and printers to tell the exceptional story of the bottle’s evolution.
Each material represents an aspect of the bottle’s history. Cork for the early bottle stoppers. Metal for the aluminum caps used later. Wood for the crates Coke was delivered in for decades. As well as different tints of class just like the first bottles.
A limited number of 100 sets were made by hand, just like the early bottles, and given to special partners and bottlers.
Four bottles, exact replicas, grow in size to represent the progress in time. As nested bottles, each predecessor fits into the follow up bottle, showing how the newer design literally embraces its past.
The bottle set can be either displayed in its wooden box which can be placed upright. Or outside the box lined up. Or nested, as one bottle, without the box.
Outcome
Each box was handed over personally on the 16th of November (the actual birthday) by a representative of the brand, making the valuable design piece even more special.
Each chest is one of a kind just like the early Coca-Cola bottles and cannot be purchased anywhere.
As a result, it is considered an exceptional gesture of acknowledgement to have been given one of these 100 boxes.
