Background

Kashmir as a place of conflict. That is what the world is shown. But there is a different kashmir that is not seen by the world because nobody benefits by showing that Kashmir.

Kashmir where there is hope, the only thing that the young need here is an opportunity. Opportunity which is rare to come by, as no hope leads, to tensions being high strung, and those high strung tensions are diverted towards political gains. Through this film we could show that football is a great opportunity, and kids do not have to succumb to politicised tensions. We made people stand up and take notice the miracle that was happening in Kashmir. The miracle of football.

Many mothers, with tears, came out thanking the film and the makers, after their children stopped pelting stones, which had become a normalised 'profession' for many of the young, and had taken up football.

Execution

To feel the tension that the kids over in Kashmir feel. The director decided to shoot in the most affected parts. One of them is Downtown in Kashmir, the people there even feel that the government has abandoned them and children over there are only scapegoats for different fissions. Once we started there, we all could feel the pain that these kids were going through when we were shooting there. One very large muscular young man after a match, hugged the director saying "bas Hindostan se pyaar chahiye" "bas aur kuch nahin" ("all we need from India is love"). The director wanted to cast real people, since the story is real, so everyone you see is from different parts of Kashmir. Even the last scene: a lone kid kicks the football against the mountains, those mountains on the other side were in Pakistan. A symbolic gesture of extending a hand.
