Background

?In 2020, American Express renewed and expanded their partnership with Air Canada, Canada’s largest domestic and international airline. The strengthened partnership included the launch of a new suite of cobrand products on Air Canada’s revamped loyalty program, Aeroplan? – a travel program built to provide best-in-class travel experiences and services.

Idea

The suite of cobrand products needed to collectively leverage the unique assets of American Express and Air Canada in a compelling way for both existing customers and new prospects. Siegel+Gale were engaged to create unique card designs with the following variations: 1. Core level product (Consumer, SBS, Corporate) – Business and Corporate will have label and content added to the Consumer design 2. Premium level product (Consumer, SBS, Corporate) – Business and Corporate will have label and content added to the Consumer design.

Execution

?Siegel+Gale created two unique card designs for consumer, small business and corporate cardmembers. To achieve success, the designs needed to be substantial and distinct in a competitive environment, and to break away from traditional travel imagery that’s all-too-common in the travel space. Simply put, the card design needed to stand out from the crowd. The design reflects the value and best-in-class experience that the American Express brand brings, as well as the freedom and flexibility customers receive through the Aeroplan? loyalty program. Altogether the design signals a travel experience that reaches beyond rewards. The cards are made of reclaimed plastic (core level) and stainless-steel metal (premium level).

Exceeded acquisition forecast by 31% for Consumer and 20% for Small Business products since launch ?
