Description

BBC World News has a real point of difference to other news broadcasters. Their journalists often live in the places they report from. They know the terrain and local culture better than a journalist who only flies in when a story breaks. BBC journalists give us insights and details that the average journalist couldn’t. They don’t just report a story, they live it.

The films in the Live the Story campaign recreate the work spaces of BBC journalists as they cover stories, revealing the tools of their trade. In each film, we navigate around a journalist’s work space, exploring their notes and personal possessions. As we explore the scene, the journalist narrates, telling us what it’s like to be there as the event unfolds. The journalist reveals a unique insight into the story that they could only really know by actually being there.

The director takes us on beautiful multi-layered journeys through the journalist’s work spaces. The stories range from a bomb explosion to a hurricane to a shuttle launch, showcasing the BBC’s breadth of coverage. The films were created using a combination of shot scenes of the journalist’s possessions, amazing authentic BBC footage, graphic elements, and real notes from their notebooks.
