Description

Inspired by the thought that of all the different beds we sleep in throughout our lives, however luxurious, none compares to our own bed at home. So our focus should be on making that room all that it can be.

The spot follows a dreaming protagonist searching for the perfect night’s sleep in various beds, only finally finding it in her bedroom at home.

There's no bed like home.

Execution

The production was a monumental task, bringing to life a believable, realistic vision of a woman falling 1000s of feet through the sky, down to earth in a bustling metropolis, and finally landing at home in her bed.

This was brought to life using a combination of set builds and locations, using multiple in-camera rigs, and CGI. Intense realistic sound design from 750 was combined with an original score and passage from The Tempest voiced by Prunella Scales .

In terms of camera work, several bespoke rigs were created to move both the camera and the actress through the air. She ended up performing all of her own stunts. In a packed downtown Johannesburg, the actress was vertically dropped 100 ft at high speed while a camera dropped on a rig along side her for the final climactic scene. A separate bungee traveller rig was created to bounce her from bed to bed in one smooth, in camera shot.

The entire production budget was £587K to achieve a film with the appearance of something that should have cost at least twice that.

If that wasn't enough, we were working with children.

And animals.
