Description

The following film is shot in one take, and inspired by true events.

We open in a lounge. Beer cans litter the floor. Smoke rises from an ashtray. A TV flickers in the corner. A 15-year-old girl steps into the room. She’s been here before; it’s where she grew up. She takes it all in, but rather than tears in her eyes, we see strength.

Set to ‘Bobby “Blue” Bland - I’ll Take Care of You’ she begins to exorcise her past through dance. This is her stage to show the world what she’s made of.

Her backstory is emphasised with titles “I am not my mum’s addiction”, “I am not the streets I slept on”. But as the story progresses, so does her determination; “I am hope”, “I am strong”.

The film concludes with a powerful portrait as she looks to camera. A title appears: “BELIEVE IN ME”.
