Description
This ad features a man carving a log while wearing an impeccable suit. The camera slowly pans over each item of his sumptuous wardrobe and the voice-over lists them. We cut to the full image of our dapper gentleman chainsawing the log and the voice-over concludes, “Just because you’re building a log cabin, doesn’t mean you should dress like a crazed mountain hermit.”
Execution
We knew that in order to connect to our youthful target we would need to create content showcasing Nordstrom in an irreverent way. “Chainsaw” features a man dressed in an impeccable suit carving a log. The camera slowly pans over each sumptuous item of his wardrobe while the voice over lists them. The camera pulls away to reveal the full image of our dapper gentleman chainsawing the log while the voice-over concludes, “Just because you’re building a log cabin, doesn’t mean you should dress like a crazed mountain hermit.” Adding humor to Nordstrom’s style was key to reaching our shopper.
Outcome
As the first Nordstrom advertising created by an out-of-house agency, "YOUphoria" set a new tone for the brand, successfully showing that Nordstrom could speak to a younger consumer.
