Description
Will AI make us redundant one day? Maybe even sooner than we think? EDEKA’s four-minute long online film looks 100 years into the future.
2117: AI has taken over control. Humans live in the woods. Our abandoned cities are the new home to robots that don’t care about Christmas. That suddenly changes when one of them finds an old Christmas movie. Fascinated by what he saw, he decides to find out what makes Christmas so special.
In the woods, far away from modern technology, he finally finds what he’s looking for. He meets a lovely family that shows him what Christmas really is about: love.
Execution
Before shooting EDEKA’s “Christmas 2117” there was already a lot of work to be done. The robot and main character of the movie had to be designed as well as an easy to believe version of our world in the future.
In September 2017 preparations were finished and the film shooting in Johannisburg and outside of Cape Town began. Two weeks later the biggest part of the work began: the animation of every futuristic detail of the movie and even more important the animation of the robot and main character of the movie. A complex work that needed about two months to be finalized. On the 29th of November 2017 “Christmas 2117” was finally ready and got published online.
